A decision to purchase uPortal Academus has been made and the software will be installed in June. Identity Management will be integrated into uPortal utilizing the Oblix CoreID system as a joint effort of Unicon and UCSB programmers. The first deployment will be as the test platform for the Sakai working group. A subsequent deployment of a separate instance of the portal, not yet scheduled, will be done in support of moving financial systems to a more modern technology.

A large planning effort is underway to describe the desired architecture of enterprise systems at UCSB. This is being done as a part of the Enterprise Information Systems Planning Group (EISPG).

The Kuali planning continues with a small working group writing up our proposal for the Enterprise Information Systems Planning Group (EISPG).

UCOP has approved the requested CIO position at the AVC level. A search will soon be underway. Dr. Mark Aldenderfer is moving to the University of Arizona and the position of Director OIT is now held by Elise Meyer.

A proposal for the complete restructuring of student systems using a commercial package has been under study for more than a year. Currently, the Sungard Matrix system is being reviewed and Sungard representatives will be on campus May 26th for an entire day of discussion and presentation. 

We are examining our initial deployment of Suse Linux on the mainframe and might decide to move to the Red Hat version instead. Pricing and logistics are being investigated.

Virtualization of the Windows and Linux server OS's under VMware ESX server continues. This strategy is part of a larger initiative to virtualize storage and build a new business continuity and disaster recovery process based on these technologies.
